Principal’s Post

©  January was a winter blast! We may have had our first snow storm of the season and some frigid temperatures but our students didn’t let that get in the way of hard work and determination!

All students took the winter STAR, Dibels and Lexia (K only) assessments this past month. These assessments are used to see how well our students are doing and if they are making the necessary growth needed to be successful. I am pleased to say that POCASSET students are making great strides! Way to go!!!

Pocasset helped the Town of Tiverton celebrate Purple week. Students in all grades participated in a variety of activities about the importance of being themselves and that they can be whoever they want to be with hard work, positive attitude, empowerment and discovery.
Ray from the Bwana Iguana Reptile Show presented a variety of reptiles to Pocasset friends. The students were very excited to see the very large Python! Thank you to Mr. Feinstein for providing this experience to our students.

The URI Rams Men’s basketball team visited Pocasset this past month to share the importance of teamwork and working hard in school. Many Pocasset families took advantage of the tickets provided to all families and saw a spectacular game!

**Just a reminder that
morning arrival is a DROP OFF process- please allow your students to exit the vehicle on the SIDEWALK side only. We ask that ALL vehicles in between the main door and the gym door release their students onto the sidewalk so traffic can keep moving – Please DO NOT get out of your vehicle –we need to keep this traffic moving.

©  With the winter weather upon us
PLEASE make sure the main office has up-to-date home and cell phone numbers and email addresses as cancellations and important school information will be sent via our automated notification system. This system allows us to share the most recent information/cancellations with all families quickly and ensure all students are safe.

©  ABSENCES- Parents are requested to notify the school when their child will be absent due to illness, appointment, etc. All families that do not call the school to report an absence will now receive a ROBO-Call from the district to alert them of a child’s absence.

Cold weather has arrived!  Please be sure that your child comes to school dressed appropriately.  The students will go outside for recess and physical education as long as the temperature, wind chill and surfaces are within a safe range. It's recommended that your child wear a warm coat, gloves, hat and scarf or neck warmer.

ALL important information is now shared via robo-calls and emails.* If you miss a call please check your messages and email for these important announcements!!

School Day- The school day begins promptly at 8:50am each morning and ends at 3:10pm. All students need to be in school every day, all day to ensure maximum learning. Students missing more than 10% of the school year to date or are consistently tardy/dismissed will receive a Truancy Letter and referred to the School Resource Officer.

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year at Pocasset School!

I want to welcome back all our returning Pocasset families and staff as well as extend a warm welcome to all the new families and staff that will be joining our school family this year! I hope you all had a spectacular vacation and everyone is excited for the new school year.

This year will again hold many new and exciting things!! We have a terrific staff returning as well as a few new members. Mrs. Edwards (formerly Ms. Rapoza!) will now join our second grade team and new teacher to Pocasset, Ms. Brennan, will join our special education team. We continue year two of our full day Kindergarten program and welcome back Mrs. Moreira who will be a part of our K team. I am confident your child will have an amazing experience at Pocasset this year as the teachers and I are eager to make your child’s learning fun and motivating.

To ensure your child has the best educational experience here at Pocasset, I ask that you become involved as much as possible in your child’s academic career. Simple things like asking about your child’s day, ensuring your child completes all homework assignments, reading with them, communicating with your child’s teacher, making sure your child attends and arrives to school on time every day, and volunteering are great ways to do so.  Volunteers are important resources in any school and here at Pocasset we can always use your help in the Library, Literacy Closet, and within the classrooms.  The PTO is also a great way to get involved!

Our district has embraced the technology revolution by providing us with many tools that allow us to communicate in more quick manners. I urge everyone to make sure your child’s teacher and the main office have the most up to date email addresses and cell phone numbers to ensure you receive the many announcements, invitations, and information our school will deliver via these systems. Also, please check our school webpage frequently for newsletters, announcements, calendar of events, lunch menus, school supplies and much more!

Here’s to a fantastic school year!
