Dear Tiverton Public Schools Family, I am writing today in the spirit of community and to address recent events at Tiverton High School which have understandably caused concern about safety. I have listened to the concerns of our students, staff, and parents, and I acknowledge that we can do better. After reviewing both incidents with the high school administration and Police Chief Jones, we have discovered several areas needing improvement, and we are all committed to updating safety measures at all of our schools. At the School Committee meeting on Tuesday, Chief Jones and I will present our findings to the School Committee in executive session so they are aware of each event. As part of that discussion, we will review all communications. On Thursday, February 9, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. the School Committee will hold a special meeting with one agenda item – school safety. Parents are welcome to attend. I hope that you will join us. The meeting will be held in the THS Auditorium. We will learn from the recent incidents. We will review our security protocols, continue to train with our first responders, and update all communication plans. I take the safety and security of our students as the first and ultimate priority. Please continue to reach out to me with any feedback and concerns. Congratulations to the undefeated Tiverton High School Mock Trial Team for winning their first-round playoff match in the RI Mock Trial Tournament. THS, the defense, defeated The Prout School. THS advances with an opportunity for a return trip to the Final Four!

Starting next school year, the Tiverton School Committee in conjunction with the administration is considering providing all special education services in our schools and removing the district from the Newport County Regional Special Education Program. To help make the best decision on this matter the School Committee will receive a presentation on the reason and rationale for this recommendation, followed by an Open Forum for staff and community members to offer their feedback/input. The forum will be held at the School Committee meeting on January 24, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. in the high school library. The Prestige Student Scholarship Program deadline is quickly approaching! 📸 Class of 2023 seniors photographed by Prestige Photography can apply for a scholarship by sharing their Prestige Photography experience in a formal one-page essay.
